Valve

Valves serve as a regulator and controller for fluid as well as changing the direction of fluid from one direction to another. There are a huge range of valve in the industry. In this article, we are going to discuss on the common type of valve in the industry.

  1. Pressure Relief Valve

Pressure relief valve helps in maintaining the pressure by limiting or releasing its pressure. They help in preventing overpressure from occurring in the equipment and balance back the internal pressure when pressure drop. This is done by setting the equipment predetermined pressure and this valve will later release excess pressure. Pressure relief valve are commonly used in boiler and pressure vessels.

  1. Plug Valve

Plug valve moves in rotational motion to stop or start fluid flow. This valve belongs to the quarter turn valve family. The disc inside the valve act as a bubble wrap to shut off or on to let fluid flow through it. There are many applications that use plug valves. These include gas pipelines, slurries, applications that contain high levels of debris, as well as high temperature and pressure applications. They work great for highly corrosive and abrasive media  as well since there is no contact between the media and the internal valve parts.

  1. Pinch Valve

Pinch valve is another valve use in controlling open, shut or throttling. It is use in the industry to control flow of fluid using rubber tubing. It moves in linear motion as compare to plug valve which move in rotational motion. Plug valves are effective for unrestricted fluid flow. Therefore, they are great for applications that need complete isolation from valve parts as well as environmental contaminants.

  1. Needle Valve

Needle valve are utilised to control flow with finest adjustment. The long, tapered  and needle-liked point of the stem act as  a disc which allow a very gradual increase or decrease of the opening. Needle valve provides more precision and control in smaller piping systems and are use in low flow rate. Commonly, needle valves are used in instruments that need fuller control for fluid surge and more precision of fluid flow. Needle valves are more commonly used in calibration applications. They are also associated with distribution points in pipe systems, where needle valves are used as a regulator of media.

  1. Globe Valve

Globe valve is one of the most common valve in the industry. It is use to stop, start or regulate flow in piping system by moving its plug type disc in linear motion. Globe valve disc moves up unobstructed to allow the flow of media. This is a great valve alternative for applications that do not require high-pressure drops. Globe valves perform well when the major concern is leakage. High point vents and low point drains use globe valves. Besides that, globe valves work when the pressure drop is not a concern such as  regulated flow applications in cooling water systems.

  1. Gate Valve

A gate valve moves in linear motion where it start or stop fluid flow. Unlike globe valve, gate valve does not regulate or throttle flow. The disc of gate valve is either gate or wedge-shaped, which has an effective shut-off and on mechanism. This type of valve is primarily suited for isolation.
